Small corner kitchen: Abimis steel at high altitude

Whether expressed through the language of tradition or through contemporary design, a mountain home must always respect a series of silent rules in its appearance, ones that emphasize its Alpine identity while creating a warm atmosphere.

This is the case with this chalet in La Thuile, a well-known ski resort on the French border in Val d’Aosta, where architect Francesco Tirimbelli, embracing the Abimis philosophy with its small corner kitchen, has redesigned in a contemporary key a true manifesto of mountain culture, while preserving its warmest and most characteristic elements.

The result is a space partly stripped of the warmth of the original structure, in favor of softer, neutral and brighter colors, yet many references to the territory and to the familiar Alpine taste remain. Examples include the lamps, tables and other furnishings in raw wood, the fur rug spread across the floor, and the decorations featuring typical mountain symbols.

The heart of the project: the small corner kitchen in Abimis steel

At the center of this original project is a kitchen from the Atelier line, made by Abimis entirely to measure to fit perfectly into the limited space available.

Shaped to the millimeter, the U-shaped module is designed to interact, for example, with the interior window sills, turned into useful surfaces for displaying or storing items.

The spacious cabinetry, meanwhile, is entirely concealed within the wall, for an extraordinary and minimal aesthetic result. Only a few cuts in the wall remain, hinting at its use.

What makes the project unique is the skillful combination of different materials: the Abimis kitchen is here presented in an imposing version with a White Carrara Marble top, which reaches an incredible thickness of 200 mm on the peninsula. Adding warmth to the kitchen block is a wooden cladding made unique by a woven micro-texture inspired by the textile world.

The Abimis challenge: quality, customization and attention to detail

The kitchen goes from being a functional element to a piece of furniture in its own right, forming a whole with the living area, whose colors and style it echoes.

Abimis makes this and much more possible, as it is fully customizable and adaptable to any context and style, in terms of size and choice of finishes. But that’s not all: the service too, from design support to installation, is tailored to the client’s needs, to be complete and efficient, without limits.

Delivering this small corner kitchen to La Thuile required complex logistics: the chalet, at an altitude of 2,200 meters, required the use of a cable car and a snowmobile to transport everything to its destination.
